Licensed in 2002 in Atlanta, Georgia, I quickly fell in love with the Real Estate industry and realized that I had found my calling. “They” say that when you love what you do, you never work another day of your life. And I’ve been saying for 20+ years that I LOVE MY JOB!
So, how did I get here? I was born and (mostly) raised in Salem, VA in a real estate family. My grandfather was an architect and developer very involved in the growth of the Roanoke Valley from the 50’s through the 90’s. My mom dabbled in real estate as well as a residential agent and later a commercial leasing specialist. Being a stubborn and independent only child, my first move when I graduated from Roanoke College was as far away as I felt comfortable - the big city in the South, Hotlanta! And I began a career in advertising. Glamorous and exciting! Well, not really. About 5 years later, I finally came to my senses and obtained my real estate license.
I immersed myself and found success almost immediately, becoming a top producer in one of the best brokerages in Intown Atlanta. First time homebuyers were my passion early on - the feeling of helping someone take such a big emotional step in their lives filled my heart and sparked my ambition. Then I was approached by an industrious young man wanting to build an investment portfolio so we started hunting and I learned the investment side of the game…buy and hold (rent) or buy and flip. I developed a keen eye for a great deal. As the years went on, I became more adept and into listing properties and working with sellers as much as buyers.
The recession hit us all hard, but I continued with my basic philosophy: help others, do the right thing, work hard and the money will follow. Customers always come first. I adjusted my business to accommodate sellers in distress by offering short sale assistance, and I bolstered my investor portfolios by working with foreclosures and even buying homes on the courthouse steps. Even in the worst real estate market our generation has seen, I consistently sold 25-35 homes per year. The lessons I learned were incredibly valuable and it furthered my belief that when you concentrate on providing true customer service, you will always succeed.
In 2016, the little family I had built in Georgia decided it was time to go back to my roots in the Roanoke Valley. We purchased the homestead in Salem that had been in my family for 60+ years and moved “home.” Incidentally, I donated or threw away all of the moving boxes used because I don’t intend to leave this home until I go “feet first.”
Relocating my career caused me to re-evaluate my goals and my passion. I still yearned to be involved in real estate (after all, it’s what I LOVE!) but I wanted to see it from a different angle. In 2019, I obtained my Associate Broker license and in 2020 I became the Principal Broker of a large franchise. I taught emerging and seasoned agents all the tricks and skills I have learned along the way. In 2.5 years I helped grow that office from 65 agents to 115, managed all of the contracts that came through the brokerage and created a coaching program from scratch. I also became more involved in our local Realtor® association by serving on the Standard Forms Committee.
In early 2023 I was recruited by MKB to be their Chief Experience Officer, a brand new role imagined just for me (who wouldn’t be flattered beyond belief?!) In this role, I focus on helping our agents enhance their services and offerings with greater skills, tools and resources in order to enhance the experience of their clients. I have created a new training program and do one-on-one coaching with our agents to help them achieve their own success stories. As a company leader, I collaborate with an incredible team to ensure that MKB continues it’s legacy and promise to be Local, Knowledgable, Trustworthy and Modern. And I truly LOVE this job as well.
While I spend much of my time helping to build and guide others, I still love to help clients buy, sell and invest in real estate in the Roanoke Valley. I keep my client load small on purpose, so that I can ensure top quality service. I would love to discuss with you how I can help you achieve your goals.
Some other fun facts about me? I love to travel and the Caribbean holds my heart - St John, USVI is my destination of choice. My favorite movie is Top Gun - I’ve seen it hundreds (no lie!) of times and I loved Maverick too. I’m a foodie at heart, but only learning to cook for the first time in the last couple of years. Pizza will always be my comfort food. I’m a bourbon lover - ask about my collection! The highest priced home I’ve ever sold was my FIRST sale at $2,741,000 and the lowest priced home I’ve ever sold is $9,900 during the recession.
